What it is
The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability is funded by the Department of Housing and run by each local council. It helps pay for changes that make a home suitable for a person with a disability to live in.
Councils means-test the household income, and many ask for an occupational therapist's assessment of the work needed. The share of the approved cost the grant covers depends on your income, up to €40,000.
Who qualifies
- A person with a disability lives in the home, or will live there
- The work is needed to make the home suitable for them
- Your household meets the council's income limits
- The council approves the itemised quote before work starts
How much you can get

How to apply
- Talk to your council. Get the application form and ask what medical or occupational therapy reports they need.

- An itemised quote, approved by the council before the work starts
- The contractor's current tax clearance or C2 details, sent with the quote
- A final invoice matching the approved work
