What it is
The heat pump grant is part of SEAI's individual home energy grants (Better Energy Homes). It is a fixed amount for each part of the job, not a percentage of the price, so a cheaper or dearer quote doesn't change what SEAI pays.
The full bundle for a detached house is up to €10,500 for the heat pump installation, up to €2,000 towards replacing radiators and up to €2,000 for scrapping your old boiler. SEAI also offers up to €200 towards a technical assessment of your home and up to €700 for heating controls.
Who qualifies
- You own the home and it meets SEAI's year-built rule for heat pumps (check the current homeowner application guide)
- Your home has an MPRN (the number on your electricity bill)
- The work is done by a contractor registered with SEAI for heat pumps
- You get your grant offer before any work starts
- Higher fixed grants apply if you get a qualifying welfare payment, are a first-time buyer, or the home is a HAP or RAS home

- If your SEAI grants come to more than €10,000 in a calendar year, you need tax clearance before SEAI can pay.
Official maximums from SEAI homeowner application guide (PDF), checked October 2026. What you get depends on your home and the work.
How to apply
- Check your home qualifies. Find your MPRN and the year your home was built and occupied, and read SEAI's current guide.
- Get a technical assessment. An SEAI registered technical advisor checks your home is ready for a heat pump.
- Choose an SEAI registered installer. Get a quote. You'll need their company name and SEAI ID for the application.
- Apply to SEAI online. Give your MPRN, the year built and your installer's details. Wait for the grant offer.
- Get the work done within 8 months. The installer commissions the system and gives you the safety and design paperwork.
- Get a post-works BER. A registered BER assessor publishes a new BER for the home.
- Claim the grant. Send the signed Declaration of Works and a Request for Payment. SEAI pays you, or your installer if the price was set net of the grant.
Do you need approval before work starts?
Yes. Don't start any work until SEAI has sent your grant offer. Once you have it, the work must be finished within 8 months.
What your contractor must provide
- Company name and SEAI ID, for your application
- A Declaration of Works signed by the installer's nominated person, the BER assessor and you. Forms with missing details are sent back
- One invoice for the heat pump job, so the 0% VAT rate applies
- The heat pump's Ecodesign datasheet, the Designer and Installer sign-off and the Heating Design form
- A safety file with the electrical (RECI) certificate, the commissioning certificate and the F-gas certificate
- Your declaration that you've paid in full or agreed a payment schedule
